"ICE Forces Little America Firings" & "Fired Workers Seek Severance"

Members of the Repeal Coalition helped deliver a letter Tuesday to Little America management asking that it pay severance benefits to rectify the injustices against the fired workers.

"About 30 members of the Repeal Coalition joined some of the former employees at Little America on Tuesday to hand-deliver a letter asking that the hotel issue checks equal to the workers' last paychecks, cash in lieu of unused sick or vacation time, and letters stating why they were fired. The Repeal Coalition stood with the former workers as a humanitarian act."

All 5 anti-immigration bills went down in defeat March 17, 2011, one day after our march! We can take some credit for this, and the Huffington Post basically does give Repeal credit!

Repeal Update on the Youth Sit-In/March and News Coverage

The youth march and sit-in went great! We made every news channel and newspaper, and the media completely used our language--the legislature "hates AZ youth," the legislation "harms AZ children," etc. Further, more and more groups from the political mainstream are now openly talking about "noncompliance." Here is a brief summary of what happened, written by Phoenix Repeal's Chris Griffin:

'Birther' bill rejected by Senate committee

Associated PressAn Arizona Senate committee rejected a proposal to require candidates for the presidency to show their birth certificates.
The bill by Republican Sen. Ron Gould [he is also the primary sponsor of the birthright citizenship bills and I think the healthcare bill] of Lake Havasu was defeated in a 3-to-5 vote Monday by the Senate's judiciary committee.
It originally proposed those requirements for presidential candidates but was amended to make it apply to candidates for statewide offices and legislative posts

DENVER - A Colorado Republican abandoned an attempt to mimic Arizona's divisive immigration law, saying Monday he worried legal challenges would burden taxpayers.
But it's only the first round in what promises to be a long battle at the Capitol on illegal immigration, including a similar proposal pending in the Senate.
Rep. Randy Baumgardner's House Bill 1107 would have given law enforcement the authority to arrest anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally and required people to carry their immigration documents.

Jury convicts activist in deadly Arizona home invasion

TUCSON -- The leader of an anti-illegal-immigrant group was convicted Monday in a home invasion that left a 9-year-old girl and her father dead in what prosecutors said was an attempt to steal drug money to fund the group's operations.
A Tucson jury found Shawna Forde, 42, guilty of murder in the May 2009 killings of Raul Flores, 29, and his daughter Brisenia at their home in Arivaca, a desert community 10 miles north of Mexico.
